Early Administration of Heparin at First Medical Contact Versus in the Cathlab for STEMI Patients Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: The HELP-PCI Trial
The HELP-PCI trial demonstrated that in patients with ST-elevation MI (STEMI) within 12 hours of symptom onset, unfractionated heparin (UFH) loading at first medical contact (FMC) improved spontaneous reperfusion of infarct-related arteries (IRA) without increasing the risk of major bleeding and improved short-term outcomes compared with UFH administration in the cathlab, but with no significant difference in 1-year outcomes, according to a study presented by Dr. Jing Chen, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, China, in the Late-Breaking Clinical Trials session at TCT 2024.
