Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy and Outcomes in the ISCHEMIA Trial
The ISCHEMIA trial demonstrated that in patients with chronic coronary disease (CCD), those who achieved all four guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) targets—systolic blood pressure (SBP) <130 mmHg, LDL-C <70 mg/dL, smoking cessation, and antiplatelet therapy-had a lower risk of cardiovascular (CV) death or myocardial infarction (MI) compared to those who achieved none. Notably, SBP control was strongly associated with a reduction in CV events, Dr. David J. Maron and colleagues, Stanford University School of Medicine, USA, reported in the April 1 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
