In intermediate-risk patients with a family history of premature coronary artery disease, incorporating coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring into a primary prevention strategy resulted in greater reductions in cholesterol levels and attenuation of plaque progression compared to standard care, Dr. Nitesh Nerlekar and colleagues, Baker Heart and Diabetes Research Institute, Australia, reported in the April 22 issue of JAMA.
