Racial and Ethnic Differences in VAD Implantation Rates and Survival in Ambulatory Heart Failure Patients
A study using data from the INTERMACS database found that among ambulatory heart failure patients undergoing implantable ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation, blacks and whites had similar rates of VAD implantation, but Hispanics had lower rates, and 12-month survival after implantation varied by race. Black patients had the highest 12-month survival rates after implantation. Dr. Debra D. Dixon of Vanderbilt University Medical Center, USA, and colleagues reported in the October 1 issue of JACC: Heart Failure.
