Statin Intensity, Discontinuation Rates and Long-Term Outcomes in Patients with AMI and Renal Dysfunction
Nationwide Swedish data showed that among patients with impaired renal function admitted to the CCU for a first AMI and initiated on statin therapy, the rate of statin discontinuation within one year was about 25%. The result was similar regardless of statin intensity. High-intensity statin therapy was associated with improved long-term outcomes in patients with impaired renal function. Dr. Masih Khedri and colleagues from Danderyd Hospital, Sweden, reported in the online edition of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology.
