Intravascular Lithotripsy vs Cutting Balloon for Calcified Coronary Lesions: The ShortCUT Trial
The ShortCUT trial demonstrated that among patients undergoing IVUS-guided PCI for calcified coronary lesions, treatment with a cutting balloon prior to DES implantation was noninferior to intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) in terms of post-procedural minimum stent area (MSA) at the site of maximum calcification, with no difference in 30-day MACCE and lower total procedural costs, according to a study presented by Dr. Suzanne J. Baron, Massachusetts General Hospital, United States, in the Late-Breaking Clinical Trials session at TCT 2025.
