A Prospective, Multicenter, Randomized Trial of Cutting Balloon Versus Conventional Balloon for the Treatment of Severe Calcified Lesion: The PREDICTION NIRS-IVUS trial
The PREDICTION NIRS-IVUS trial demonstrated that repeated low-pressure inflations using a cutting balloon prior to stent implantation for severely calcified coronary lesions resulted in a significantly larger final minimum stent area (MSA) compared to conventional balloon pre-dilatation. The benefit of the cutting balloon was more evident in lesions with greater calcification arc, according to a study presented by Dr. Kohei Koyama, Kyorin University Hospital, Japan, in the New Evidence for Treatment of Calcified CAD session at EuroPCR 2025.
