Randomised Comparison of Lithotripsy vs. Conventional Preparation in Severely Calcified Coronary Lesions: The BALI trial
The BALI trial demonstrated that in patients undergoing PCI for severely calcified coronary lesions, the use of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) prior to stent implantation was associated with a lower risk of procedural failure and 1-year target vessel failure (TVF; cardiac death, MI, and clinically driven revascularization) compared to conventional lesion preparation, without an increased rate of procedural complications, according to a study presented by Dr. Andreas Kristensen, Rigshospitalet, Denmark, in the Hotline/Late-Breaking Trials session at EuroPCR 2025.
